LGBT API Survey

Alain is the author of this just-released national survey of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Asian and Pacific Islander Americans.

Almost all the respondents reported experiencing discrimination or harassment, which sadly does not seem surprising. Most agreed that Asian Americans experience racism within the LGBT community, which is predominantly white. One of the most interesting findings is that media representations (how APIs and queer APIs are portrayed, if at all, in the media) is a top concern of the respondants.

Thanks for the shout-out!This study is the culmination of over three years of networking, agitating, and mobilizing, and I hope Living in the Margins will inspire the dialogue necessary to really move our communities forward.Dozens of queer API organizations across the country were a part of developing this project, and, sadly were not shocked by the pervasive discrimination and marginalization.However, this study also shows an engaged, vibrant, diverse community full of passionate activists.So check it out.
