Links: we likes 'em quick 'n' dirty this week:
- An Indian American doc is on trial for possessing high explosives.
- A Boise Vietnamese American wins a defamation case against those who called him a communist. OMG, people, I thought we were past all this.
- Anoop Desai is out of "American Idol." Yawn.
- A 17-year-old Indonesian American socialite/model has been abducted by her abusive Malaysian prince husband and his family. I know: WTF? Just read the two articles. (By the way: here "Indonesian American" seems to be misused to mean "half Indonesian, half white American.")
- Diversity Inc.'s top 10 companies for Asian Americans,
- Not on Diversity Inc's list is an organized crime ring targeting Chi Am business owners in the LA area, extorting money from them by phone.
- Vikram Pandit's head is on the block awaiting the results of Citibank's stress test. Time mag argues against firing CEOs.
- Iranian American reporter Roxana Saberi, jailed in Iran for alleged espionage, is on hunger strike.
- Meanwhile, in the states, freedom of the press doesn't exist either for Pakistani American Javed Iqbal, father of five, who was sentenced to nearly six years for making Hezbollah broadcasts available in the States.
- The rest of the media catches up with the whole "Is Obama Our First Asian American President?" thing, only they throw in the kitchen sink, too. I guess you have to give them credit for trying.
- JA artist and former internee Amy Kasai died last week in Fresno.
- And finally: James D. Houston -- co-author, with his wife Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, of the classic Japanese internment memoir Farewell to Manazar -- died last week of lymphoma. Please see the vid above for a tribute.
Wow, that went by fast.
Yeah, it was no fun for me, neither. More foreplay next time, I promise.
