Tiny Toones Cambodia Performances

TTSeattle.jpgTiny Toones is a Cambodia-based nonprofit founded by a deportee from Long Beach, which teaches basic skills education, gang intervention, HIV/AIDS awareness, and b-boying/b-girling to youth off the streets in Phnom Penh. Tiny Toones leaders are in the US for the first time for a national tour, and will be in Seattle two dates for a community hall and fundraiser. Featuring dance performances, local art, a live auction, and an exhibit on immigration policy and deportation.

Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Film Festival

laapff09.jpgThis year marks the 25th Anniversary of the LAAPFF, complete with over 180 films from 26 countries. Opening is Tze Chun's hit Children of Invention, So Yong Kim's Treeless Mountain as the Fest Centerpiece, and Yojiro Takita's Academy Award Winner Departures for Closing Night. Additional performances by local groups, including Apna Bhangra Crew, Fraggle Rock Crew, Chinese and Filipino community drill teams, Cambodian dancers, and more. Also check out Legacies of War's national traveling exhibit about the war in Laos, and the film What Are You Anyways? at 1 pm, presented by the Mavin Foundation.

19th Annual Walk For Rice -- Seattle

wfr-web-logo.gifEach year, the Walk for Rice event raises money for the Asian Counseling and Referral Service food bank, which serves low-income APIs and seniors. The walk and fun run, held at the lovely Seward Park on June 20, brings together over 1,000 community members to fight hunger.
