Vietnamese International Film Festival 2009
This eight-day event will showcase Vietnamese and Vietnamese diasporic filmmakers, with feature films like Tammy Nguyen Lee's Operation Babylift: The Lost Children of Vietnam, Le-Van Kiet's Sad Fish, and a variety of shorts programs. ViFF will also host panel discussions on film and gender, and they're still looking for festival volunteers. Screenings will be held mainly at UC Irvine, with some at UC Los Angeles and Westminster,

Stephanie Syjuco Exhibits -- Seattle & San Jose
Bay Area FilAm artist Stephanie Syjuco will be presenting two exhibits this week in Seattle and San Jose:
The Village (Small Encampments) solo exhibition is constructed of small cut-out dioramas taken from tourists' pictures of the Philippines, and later photographed in the artist's living space as a personal travelogue. Exhibit runs April 2 -- May 2.

Lao New Year Celebration and Exhibit
This year's Lao New Year Celebration will feature Legacies of War's National Traveling Exhibition and TeAda Production's Refugee Nation , a moving performance of oral histories of Laotian refugees and their descendants. The Friday opening night event will be followed by a screening of Oscar Nominated documentary Nerakhoon -- The Betrayal. San Diego is home to the largest number of Laotian American refugees who came to the US in the '70s and '80s.

Early deadline approaching for the SDAFF, which will take place October 15 -- 29, 2009. Entries are accepted for the following categories: Animation, Short Documentary, Feature Documentary, Narrative Short, and Narrative Feature, with a cash prize for the Jury Winner.
