Hyphen TV: Can't Beat the Backbeats

I am a FOOL for not watching The Sing-Off from the start. Thankfully, I have rectified the situation and caught up on all the a capella goodness I've missed. The Backbeats were an early stand-out for me, particularly the group's adorable creator, Kenton Chen. Joining him is alto Catherine Ricafort, and I can't discuss the group without mentioning the gorgeous voice of Joanna Jones. LOVE THESE GUYS. Their energy and wackiness are nicely counterbalanced by their emotion -- I got chills during last week's performance of "Landslide." Oh man, just check them out.

Gift Guide: These Are a Few of Our Favorite Causes

Which of the following is a good reason to donate:

  • People on your gift list are do-gooders/don't need more stuff.
  • Year-end tax-deductible write-offs.
  • Community orgs doing vital, meaningful work.
  • Your faithful Hyphen staff swear by these causes.
  • Any of the above.

Crazy, but true: That there question has no wrong answer!

Come on, Hollywood Foreign Press. Did Yogi Bear not make the cut-off in time?

72-Hour Hold: Part 2

I am given two sets of light blue pajamas, cotton pants and short-sleeve shirt with snap buttons, and except for the Marin General Hospital printed on the pocket, they’re not unattractive, functional and even comfortable. People wear them, together or mixed with other tops and bottoms, during the day too -- but I am strict with myself not to; they make you look like you belong here.

Hip Hop Roundup: Far East Movement for Starters

If you're hooked up to Hyphen on Facebook, you already know that Far East Movement is covering the next issue. These guys were my first professional interview in 2006; they have a special place in my heart and I'm proud to see them completely killing it in 2010. "Like a G6" bangs so hard it went double platinum this year, and even 50 Cent did a remix.
