Picture Bride [1] told the story of Japanese picture brides and Hawaiian sugar cane plantation workers in the early 1900s. It won the Audience Award for Best Dramatic Film at teh 1995 Sundance Film Festival. Hatta was 47. Her latest movie, "Fishbowl," was set to air on PBS.
