Tila Tequila Says She Helped Lift Gay Marriage Ban
She tells the magazine, "It is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement. Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships]," she said. "Then they realized, 'Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.' The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal."
I'm hoping that UsWeekly took these statements out of context or that perhaps she was heavily medicated at the time of the interview. Regardless of your opinion on Ms. Tequila (Hyphen [1] previously discussed Tila the Asian stereotype vs. Tila the savvy businesswoman), I think it's disrespectful to credit yourself with such a landmark civil rights victory. Especially if your contribution to the cause was romping around in a hot tub with various guys and gals. What would George Takei [2] say?
