Inauguration Week Linkfest

Elaine Low - January 20, 2009
  • In a perhaps kooky addition to the week's assortment of historical documentation, New York Times reporter Jennifer 8. Lee (of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles fame) asks if this transcript [1]of a 1862 speech by Abraham Lincoln possibly contains the first emoticon. Typo or early adopter? What do you think? ;)
  • And as Neela mentioned [2], Michelle Obama's inaugural ballgown [3]
was unveiled (and unveiled, and unveiled) at each of the 10
Inauguration balls throughout the evening. The one-shoulder chiffon
gown was created by 26-year-old Taiwanese-born Jason Wu [4],
who grew up in Canada and currently resides in New York. The gown will
be donated to the Smithsonian, in keeping with tradition.
