In other short film news, you can catch Steven Okazaki's Oscar-nominated short Conscience of Nhem En at a free Berkeley screening [1] Tuesday, July 7. The screening's at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay, and they'll also be showing the Oscar winning short film Smile Pinki.

Or watch it on HBO2 starting this Wednesday [2]. I highly recommend the film (full disclosure: Steve Okazaki is an advisor on a film I'm working on). Here's a short description of the film: "Thirty years ago, during the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror over Cambodia, 16- year-old soldier Nhem En was instructed to photograph thousands of men, women and children as they passed through a processing center on their way to certain death. The portraits he took bear witness to the unspeakable suffering and loss endured by the country." You can also listen to an interview Okazaki did that aired on KPFA 94.1 Sunday.
