- And finally: compare the comments on this New York Times blog post [8] on raising a bilingual child to Hyphen's own two-part blog [9] post from Momo [10] a few months ago. Hyphen's discussion is so much more complex and rich than the NYT's (not surprisingly in any case.) But it's really obvious that the reason for the Hyphen-extra-richness is that the NYT's commenters are mostly monolingual parents in transnational/interethnic marriages trying to raise a bilingual child, whereas Hyphen's commenters are mostly folks who were raised bilingual, or partly raised bilingual, themselves. This is typical of white America: have a question? Ask other white Americans who have the same question. Don't, for gods' sake, ask the minorities who have the answers! This is why we SOOO need Hyphen. Hyphen magazine: "Model Minority" my ass!
