Six Days of Mr. Hyphen: Tony Douangviseth

Andrew Pai - November 8, 2009

He later organized community cleanups in East Oakland and annual free
summer programming for disadvantaged youths of color. At the same time,
he co-founded HOPE (Helping Oakland’s People Eat), an organization
dedicated to educating high school students on healthy eating. Then,
along with a handful of community members, Tony co-founded Serve the
People. He now helps mentor and develop the organization’s twelve youth
leaders and convenes bi-weekly general meetings with over thirty API
youths from the area.

Tony Says:

I want to be a part of a process where
community leaders could create an Asian American organization that is
not geared towards funding, but more of community healing, education,
self-determination and social justice for all people.
