Hollywood has a biased perception of Asians and willfully perpetuates negative stereotypes. Look at African-Americans. They have made some progress but at the end of the day what has materially changed? One can spend their whole life trying to be the 1st to do this or that in the U.S. but it can be done in Asia right away. Same thing holds true outside of Hollywood in non-entertainment fields. Why not be in Asia where one can dictate his/her own path?

I guess "dictating his/her own path" is really a questions of what do you want your path to be. Is it better to work against the biases in one's own country of go back to where someone says you came from? It's basically the same as moving to a different job market because your skills have a match there. It happens all the time within this country and is basically accepted practice in specialized fields such as academia or technology. By going into an image-dependent career like modeling or entertainment, one has to realize that visual perception is as important as work experience. Personally, I have no qualms with anyone who goes to Asia to find success- if I felt confident I could live on the gigs I get there, I would be on a plane and planning to buy a place in Singapore right now.

On the theme of finding success in Asia, does anyone know if there has been an article about Dashan on this blog/magazine? Also, will I get email notification if anyone responds to this post? I feel like I am pissing in the wind here!
