Hot Lesbian Love Story

June 1, 2005

This is the first Asian American film bankrolled by Hollywood since the Joy Luck Club -- it's been 12 years. Show your support, not just cause it's an Asian American film, but because it's a pretty good one.

Here's the schedule of openings:

NEW YORK: May 27th at the Angelika (in Soho) and the AMC 25 (on 42nd Street)

LOS ANGELES: May 27th at the Sunset Laemmle 5, Westside Pavilion, Playhouse (Pasadena), Town Center (Encino) and South Coast Village (Costa Mesa)

SF BAY AREA: June 3rd at the Landmark Embarcadero, UA Stonestown Twin, Landmark Shattuck (Berkeley), Palo Alto Square, Century 5 (Pleasant Hill), Santana Row (San Jose) and Marin/Sausalito.

OTHER CITIES: Boston (6/3), Atlanta (6/24), Chicago (6/10), Dallas (6/17), Houston (6/17), Denver (7/1), Detroit (6/24), Miami (6/17), Minneapolis (6/24), Seattle (6/24), St. Louis (6/24), Washington (6/24)

Here's a story that ran in Sunday's New York Times about how Wu stuck to her guns and resisted Hollywood's attempts to replace her characters with white ones and make the love story a heterosexual one.

We've got our own interview with Alice Wu coming up soon on this site, so stay tuned!

When will this open in Honolulu? With our large Asian/Pacific population, this film should do well here.
I think it may have closed already? I noticed it's nowhere on the sony picture classics website anymore.
m very hot
Here's a letter from director Alice Wu:Some GREAT news. We had a smashing opening weekend in New York and LA and ended up with the 2nd Highest Per Screen Average at $16,510 per screen (just below Star Wars, but ahead of the other dozen or so blockbusters we were competing with)! It was terrifically gratifying to see all the sold-out shows. Many thanks to all of you for helping get the word out! It's kind of amazing how well this grass-roots support is working -- and we have you guys to thank for it.So this week (June 3), we open in the San Francisco Bay Area and in San Diego. We continue to stay in New York and LA. It would be excellent if you could spread the word to anyone in those four cities for this coming weekend. There really is an excitement in the audiences about being the first to see the film, and who doesn't want to catch the wave early?Still gunning for those Siths,AliceHere are the theaters for June 3:[NOTE: PLEASE CHECK YOUR LOCAL LISTINGS FOR LAST MINUTE CHANGES]SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREAEmbarcadero Center 5 (San Francisco)Albany Twin (Albany)Marin Three (Sausalito)Century 25 Twin (San Jose)Century Cinema 16 (Mountain View)Los Gatos Twin (Los Gatos)SAN DIEGOHillcrest Cinema 5 (San Diego)LOS ANGELESSunset Laemmle 5 (Los Angeles)Westside Pavilion (West LA)Pasadena Playhouse 7 (Pasadena)University Town Ctr 6 (Irvine)NEW YORKAngelika Film Center (Manhattan - downtown)AMC Empire 25 (Manhattan - 42nd street)Some future dates (again, these are tentative, but so far planned):6/10: BOSTON, CHICAGO, SEATTLE6/17: MIAMI, NEW HAVEN, DALLAS, HOUSTON, PALM SPRINGS, etc6/24: WASHINGTON DC, ATLANTA, MINNEAPOLIS, PHILADELPHIA, PORTLAND, ST LOUIS
