Bruce Lee's Family Producing Biopic

July 25, 2006

Apparently Stephen Chow of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer fame is interested in playing Lee in the movie.

The movie is the first about Lee that his family has been involved with. I guess they didn't like Jason Scott Lee's performance in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. But Stephen Chow? I've only seen him in comedic roles, but he's got a dramatic acting background. Maybe it would work.

Who would you like to see play Bruce Lee?

The goal keeper from shaolin soccer would be great, but I'd like to see Stephen Chow in the role
the legend big boss
stephen chow would NOT make a good bruce lee. thing is, bruce lee is well known as an icon, and often, ignorant people use bruce lee in racial comments. stephen chow is not exactly the model for asian men that will break any stereotypes, as he is a rather, scrawny, small guy, not particularly attractive. he has established himself in the media here (as well as in asia!) as a wildly comedic actor (he's hilarious) so it will be hard to take him seriously as bruce lee. it just sounds like a joke to me. the man who portrays bruce lee should be one with a more serious, dignified air. stephen chow just has a silly vibe to him. and plus--people don't usually harp on this because of lee's famously large mop hair--but lee was rather handsome, and had a great athletic yet slim build. stephen chow...i am a fan of him, but he is not the most handsome man on this planet, and is rather scrawny...if you get my drift. when will we see strapping young handsome asian men in the american media to undo the damage done by william hung?
im aint dead im having a break eating a kitkat !
To whom it may concern,Thankyoufor your execellent web page and information,I am trying to contact Bruce less Family to get information ,but i don,t have any contacts ,could you please help me, like an email address for his brother, thankyou very muchsincerely Raymond Alderdice.
I think the guy who played Johnny in "The Last Dragon" would be best because he was good imitating Bruce plus he looks like Bruce a lot.
Any role Stephen Chow plays would be fantastic. I think Bruce would be proud to have Stephen portray his life story. Stephen Chow is a fantastic actor.
He was the Best and still is, so finding a Character to play this part may be very hard to find. I know the way Bruce Moved step by step and No one will ever bring it like that man would. So be very strong in finding this person, because alot of us know and will be able to see the difference. Even through Hollywood movies.. I will always Remmeber "Bruce Lee"
Here's the thing Jason S. Lee did a great job as Bruce! However the movie was so far from the truth about his real life. None of the events were even close to what really happened. Did Jason look like Bruce ? A little bit but not particularlly, but it was the voice (listen to Bruce's real voice sometime) and his screen energy, even in the scenes where he was being prejudiced against. There was a spark ! However the Mortal Combat guy ? Great Martial Artist but LOOKS NOTHING like BRUCE ! That's like saying all asians look a like ! He's not even close ! Bruce was a quater German and though he looked full Chinese he looked a tad different too because of his racial make up. The goaly from S. Soccer would be really good looks wise. Perfect dead on looks but can he act ? Stephen Chow ? Great actor ! But he looks like Jackie Chan's brother or something. Look at some pics of Stephen chow on line that are some of his Promo pics and you can see a resemblance to Jackie Chan. I know Bruce is Asian and so is Jackie but they don't even look like they would be related ! Unknown Raw actor for sure will do the trick ! One last note. Stephen Chow has a heavy Chinese accident ! Bruce didn't have a heavy "chinese" accident. He certainly talked different but I think based on the crowd he hung out with and his experiences, and second language had to do with how he talked. If you were talking to Bruce on the phone I don't think if you didn't know him you would say "Chinese". Stephen Chow you would. Their accents are very different indeed !
Hi well i am a huge Bruce Lee fan i have all his books and movies i was watching some actors and Kwok Kuen Chan Surprised me cause he does looks like Bruce Lee he only needs a little bit of body muscle like bruce all cut But average. Too me he will do a good roll on Bruce Lee Really
the only guys that can play bruce lee is bruce lee himself
I think any one would be better than Stephen Chow. He has one of those faces you want to forget.Jason Scott Lee on the other hand is a fine actor. I feel if they work with him enough they will get exactly what they are looking for out of him. He is an amazing actor. People just have to give him a chance and forget about the choices he made in the past.
Chan Kwok Kuen, who played the goalkeeper in Shaolin Soccer did a pretty good Bruce Lee impression in the yellow jumpsuit. Although I think he was a new actor at the time, and his moves were coached by Stephen Chow.
I think the family might have not agreed with the supernatural element (the "curse") alluded to in the Jason Scott Lee pic... I don't think it was Jason's performance. Lee's daugther Shannon even had a cameo in the movie.
To me, as of one of Bruce Lee's #1 fans, I hav read many books about him and knoe as much as i could about him, i think there are plenty of many great actors out there who can play the role of Bruce. I have watched many martial arts movies....it has surprised me that Donnie Yen, was great in the movie "SPL" the way he was moving and the speed and the style, looks very similar. Espacially the part when Donnie was fighting the "kid" wearing white in the alley with his little blade was magnificent. Oh Yeah! Now what about that one Asian guy from "Mortal Kombat"? forgot his name, however he was good too. He had the hair and everything. Hmmm...i don't know but, Jason Scott Lee did pretty good in "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", he was good but the story didn't seem right, Bruce didnt brake his back from a combat, he broke his back because of weight lefting and had forgotten to stretch out before performing anything physical. But, whomever takes the role, has to do a magnificent job of it.
I think Stephen Chow will be a good choise. He's flexible & know some kungfu, the most important thing he's a crazy bruce lee fans,i believe he would do his best to be like bruce.look at the link belowFu Hustle http://www.lequotidienducinema.com/critiques/shaolinsoccer_critiques/ph2.jpghttp://www.lapropagationduchaos.net/cine/kung_fu_hustle/kung_fu_hustle_stephen_chow.jpg
They should get an relatively unknown actor, like Superman Returns did. Bruce is an icon by now, and an unknown actor wouldn't bring any baggage with him.
Stephen Chow would be excellent choice. There is also a young chinese man who was at the opening of the hong Kong statue in November last year who has a good likeness of Bruce.
You need a sophisticated actor to play the role of a sophisticated man such as Bruce Lee was........anything less than that would be a "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" remake. An unknown actor who is willing to takes risks, combined with a director of the same caliber, would be the ingredients for a masterpiece film.
yeh that doode PangGo is right, i think that the person who would play Bruce Lee should be that one Liu Kang guy from Mortal Kombat... take a good look at the resemblance
Good people of Hyphen magazine, let me share with you something. I'm an older man and I knew -- for a brief moment in my chaotic life, the man, no, the legend, Bruce Lee. I knew Bruce and I can tell you one thing. Stephen Chow is no Bruce Lee...
