More Asian Americans get voted off the island

May 22, 2008

Cashmere Mafia (ABC): I liked this show a lot better than Lipstick Jungle and really thought it had a chance, but apparently viewers on a whole didn't think as much about it as I did. According to reports it's good to hear that Lucy Liu will still be on television though in the next season of Dirty Sex Money.

Bionic Woman (NBC): This had the potential to be completely amazing but somehow it just kind of petered out down the line. Will Yun Lee might be reappearing in 2009 for a series called Finnegan (it's in pre-production from IMDB's notes).

Aliens in America (CW): Can't say I really ever watched this even though at times I was thinking about it. Adhir Kalyan who played the lead character Raja is currently filming Fired Up.

Journeyman (NBC): Sure it had Moon Bloodgood
in the cast, but that alone didn't engage me enough to actually sit
down and watch it on a regular basis (I think I hit like one episode
that I can't even remember). At least it looks like she's got some
steady work outside of TV land.

Men in Trees (ABC):
I kind of got into this for a little bit here and there although I was
never really what you would call an actual viewer of the show. It's
kind of unfortunate too as it had Lauren Tom and Suleka Mathew in the cast (I'm more familiar with Tom's work).

Notes from the Underbelly (ABC): I can't even say I even know what this show was about even though it ran for two seasons, but Sunkrish Bala who played the character Eric is going to be in a new movie called Albino Farm about college students exploring the Ozark Mountains who run into some cave-dwellers (I'm thinking Deliverance).

New Amsterdam (FOX): While some of the commercials captured my attention, that was about as far as it went so I never really got to see how Zuleikha Robinson faired in the series.

Unhitched (FOX):
This seems like a show I should have gotten into because I have a soft
spot for fluffy comedies about relationships, but seeing as how it only
aired six times, it gives me an out. Shaun Majumder who played the character Freddy has a credit in the new film Bob Funk with Rachael Leigh Cook.

Note that this list doesn't include reality television shows. If any cast members or shows were missed, feel free to add them down below in the comments.

You left out ABC's Eli Stone, which has been renewed and features one of the few current Asian American prime-time characters that don't make me cringe. James Saito is great as Eli's American-born acupuncturist/best friend, even though the character's essentially an Asian American version of the Magic Negro.
Jimmy: I haven't seen too much of his character and the show itself, but I've heard about him and caught a couple of clips of him on YouTube and I think it's great from what I've seen. I'm glad to hear that it got renewed.
I agree with Slanty, and I'll search for more information about the characters on Youtube too!Thank you for the tips.
I liked Cashmere Mafia too and the other shows you mention on ABC. Hopefully the new shows will have Asian Americans in their cast.
