Autumn Gem Screening
This documentary/docudrama, directed by Rae Chang and Adam Tow, explores the extraordinary life of the Chinese revolutionary heroine and women's right activist Qui Jin (1875-1907). During the last dynasty in China, Qui Jin challenged gender roles and demanded equal rights and opportunities for women. Followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers.

Hollywood's Reel Bad Arabs: Problems and Prospects
Dr. Jack Shaheen presents his documentary Reel Bad Arabs and new book Guilty: Hollywood's Verdict on Arabs After 9/11, which dissect a virtually unchallenged aspect of cinematic history from silent screen to contemporary blockbuster. Shaheen argues that the persistence of negative images has normalized prejudicial attitudes towards Arabs and Arab culture. The talk and screening will be followed by discussion and Q & A.

Scholarship for Asian American Filmmakers
The Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA) annonces its $1,000 scholarship for currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers as filmmakers and in television production. Formed in 1992, MANAA is the only organization solely dedicated to monitoring the media and advocating blanced, sensitive, and positive depictions and coverage of the Asian American community.
