Join this book reading on "post-race" in the Obama era with author and Hampshire professor Falguni Sheth. Sheth's new work Toward a Political Philosophy of Race examines how a liberal "color-blind" society enables racism and discrimination by drawing on historical examples. Rajagopalan, author of Muslims of Metropolis: The Stories of Three Immgirant Families in the West, will moderate a discussion after the reading.

Japanese Americans and WWII Photography Exhibition

The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program and UCLA Asian American Studies Center presents Professor Lane Ryo Hirabayashi and his latest book Japanese American Resettlement Through the Lens, with the last surviving full-time War Relocation Authority (WRA) photographer Hikaru Carl Iwasaki.The WRA photos --  portraying Japanese Americans attempting to blend back into mainstream society --  appeared in newspapers and other sources between 1943 and 1945. Iwassaki, who was imprisoned with his family at the WRA's Heart Mountain camp in Wyoming, will share his personal account. More info here.
