Let Love Rain Fundraiser

onginaletlovesmall.JPGJoin Shelter From the Downpour Collective to raise funds for LGBTQ organizations in the Philippines providing typhoon disaster relief and year-round services. Proceeds will go towards Akap Bata in Manila and Serve the People Brigade-Cordilla Disaster Response Network in Northern Luzon. With performances by Alison Roh Park and others, plus special guest ONGINA from TV show RuPaul's Drag Race. A silent auction, raffle prizes, and other activities also be included.

Philippine American Writers and Artists (PAWA) Book Reading

gufbooklaunch.jpgPAWA and Arkipelago Books present a book launch of Growing Up Filipino II: More Stories for Young Adults -- edited and collected by Cecilia Manguerra Brainard. Writers included in the anthology explore the challenges and experiences of Filipino teens post- 9/11. The event will feature readers Rashaan Alexis Meneses, Veronica Montes, Tony Robles, and Marianne Villaneuva. More info here.

Asian American Journalists Association of San Francisco (AAJA SF) Accepting Scholarship Applications

Each year, AAJA SF awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school seniors and college students as part of its mission to encourage Asian Americans to pursue journalism, promote diversity in newsrooms, and encourage fair coverage of APA topics and communities. Students are generally selected for their journalistic ability, community involvement, and financial need (as opposed to having a journalism major). More info and application here.
