MATCHA: Ghosts & Golden Clouds

The Asian Art Museum's last MATCHA of the year has a special theme focusing on Asian ghost stories. Master storyteller Brenda Wong Aoki, award-winning contemporary jazz composer Mark Izu, and an ensemble of saxophone, koto, shakuhachi, and taiko drums will perform Japanese ghost tales. Event includes an art activity to make your own Noh Mask, cash bar, docent tours, and the exhibition Beyond Golden Clouds. More info here. Co-sponsored by Hyphen.

"Poetry Flash" with Barabara Jane Reyes & Javier O. Huerta


Hyphen's own Barbara Jane Reyes will read from her new book of poems Diwata, "which works back and forth between the Book of Genesis and the Tagalog creation myth of the muse". Javier Huerta’s debut book, Some Clarifications y otros poemas, received the Chicano/Latino Literary Prize from UC Irvine.

This Saturday's screening features Death Note: "A battle between the world’s 2 greatest minds begins when Light Yagami finds the Death Note, a notebook with the power to kill, and decides to rid the world of criminals." Get Involved With PACT (Pan Asian Community Together)

PACT will be shooting three targeted PSAs on preventing gay suicide, stopping anti-Asian violence, and getting out the API vote. All interested APIs needed, especially filmmakers, photographers, celebrities, and organizations.
