Rally to Stop the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement
The Korea-US FTA will be the 2nd largest trade agreement since NAFTA. A coalition of groups will hold a rally to stop this agreement, arguing that this FTA will cost tens of thousands of jobs and weaken worker rights, while strengthening the rights of corporations over public interest laws intended to protect citizen health and the environment. Sponsors include the San Francisco Labor Council, California Fair Trade Coalition, Citizens Trade Campaign, OBAK, AFL-CIO, and many more. Giant Robot San Francisco presents a new exhibit featuring two artists: Sean Chao sculpts, paints, and delicately constructs a world filled with curiosity and amusement, creatures and animals. "Stars for Hope": Celebrity Fundraiser for Pakistan Flood Relief
The non-profit OPEN Chicago -- a group of socially conscious entrepreneurs of Pakistani origin -- is sponsoring the fundraiser "Stars For Hope" to support the ongoing Pakistan Flood relief effort. The celebrity fundraiser will feature actors Faran Tahir (Iron Man, Star Trek), Aasif Mandvi from The Daily Show, and Iqbal Theba from the TV show Glee. Part of the program involves a live auction that includes tickets to the actors’ shows, autographed items from Glee, Chicago Bulls tickets, and more. All proceeds of the auction and the event will go towards the victims of the flood. More info here.
