Bone Marrow Drive
The Vietnamese American Bar Association of Washington is holding this important bone marrow drive. Diversifying the national registry is critical for finding life-saving bone marrow matches, as ethnicity is a determining factor in finding a match. However less than 7% of the 6 million donors in the registry are of API descent. Please contact thuy(dot)nguyenleeper(at)expeditors(dot)com if you can volunteer or plan to stop by for a cheek swab.

Banh Xeo Culinary Workshop
As part of their annual APA Heritage Festival, the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) is presenting a culinary workshop series on food culture driven by seasonal and local ingredients, with the aim of preserving traditional culinary practice through the the oral passing of knowledge and kitchen dialogue. This workshop will focus on banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe) and spring herbs, by Thy Tran of Asian Culinary Forum and wanderingspoon.com. Each workshop is followed by lunch. Wooden House Voices: Angel Island Poetry Reading
Join Kearny Street Workshop's Postcard Poets, Paper Angels playwright Genny Lim, and Bay Area officials for readings of original works as well as poems by Angel Island immigrants.The Immigration Station was the point of entry for over one million immigrants from 80 nations between 1910 and 1940. Free self-guided tours of the hundreds of poems carved into the walls of the Detention Barracks (known in Chinese as "the wooden house") are available before and after the poetry program.

2009 Minidoka Pilgrimage
The Friends of Minidoka and Minidoka Internment National Monument Committee are accepting registrants for the 2009 Pilgrimage on June 26-28. Participants will have a chance to visit the grounds of the National Monument, tour the barracks, and attend a memorial service. In addition to the pilgrimage, a two-day symposium on Civil Liberties in Wartime will take place at the College of Southern Idaho on June 25-26. More info and registry here.
