Finding Home in Chinatown: The Kong Yick Building
Screening

180px-Seattle_-_East_Kong_Yick_Building_01.jpgThis film showcasws the history of Seattle's International District through the lens of one of Chinatown's first buildings, the Kong Yick. With no financial backing from any bank, the Kong Yick was created in 1910 through the pooled resources of over 170 Chinese American pioneers. Once occupied by a hotel, family associations, and apartments, the Kong Yick is now the new home of the Wing Luke Asian Museum.

Asian Arts Together and Dances of Asia

dances.jpgThe Asian Arts Together workshop is for children and families to work together on hands-on activities including Japanese paper and Daruma dolls, Cambodian theater masks, Korean kites, Lunar New Year ox puppets, and Vietnamese dragon mobiles. Arabic calligraphy, fruit carving and Japanese paper craft demonstrations will also be featured. Stick around for various traditional and contemporary dance performances with Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) artists.

Boxer Rebellion Fashion Show

230x130_boxer.jpgThe Ant Show, a showcase for Bay Area musicians, is presenting their Fifth Annual Boxer Rebellion fashion show. The event will feature the work of eight local designers, who will express their creativity through the medium of men's and women's underwear with a 1920s Prohibition-era theme. Live music will be performed by the bands Sleep Your Excellence, Hot Challenge, The Papersons, and The Catholic Comb. DJs Steena Lynn and Kon Kon on the wheels of steel.

National AAPI Week of Service May 24-31

AAPI Momentum, the online community for progressive AAPI leaders, organizations, and volunteers, has been celebrating API Heritage Month by posting service events across the country, such as youth mentorship and renovating community centers for at-risk youth.
