Seasonal Dishes Workshops: Churu and Arroz Caldo

sampa.jpgThe Oakland Asian Cultural Center presents a series of culinary workshops focusing on traditional food culture driven by seasonal and local ingredients. Saturday's session will prepare churu, a fermented cheese soup popular in the region of Kongpo, along with tsampa -- the staple food of Tibet. Sunday's workshop will focus on lugao or arroz caldo -- similar to congee -- and flavored with various meats and fish sauce.

"Tao Po?" Benefit Concert with Kitchie Nadal

Kitchie_Poster_small.JPGMusician Kitchie Nadal will be featured as a part of the "Tao Po?" lineup, a benefit concert presented by the nonprofit Organic Humanity. Katz & Ellen, Domino, MJ & Trials, Alfa, Chapter 2, Blue Melon Pop, and BWG Band will also perform.

Third Annual Locus @ Kearny Street Workshop Do It Yourself Music Video Contest

KSW-logo.JPGOnce again, Locus@KSW is teaming up musicians with bands from the Asian American community to make music videos, which will premiere in February 2010 and compete for an opportunity to screen at the 2010 San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Call for Entries: 33rd Annual Asian American Film Festival (AAIFF)

Submit your film to the first and longest running festival dedicated to showcasing works by Asian/Asian American filmmakers. AAIFF -- which will run July 15-24, 2010 -- is now accepting submissions for categories of narrative feature, documentary feature, shorts, music videos, screenplays, works-in-progress, and youth films (by filmmakers under 20). More info here. Early deadline: January 27, 2010. Final deadline: Fbruary 24,2010.

Seeking Participants for Documentary on Female Immigrants -- New York

Filmmaker Alexandra Hidalgo is seeking women who were born abroad but now live in New York City. In her work, Hidalgo will aim to humanize the immigrant experience and counteract the negative portrayals currently in the media amidst the immigration debate.
