Come Together: Arts in the Asian American Movement
Karen Tei Yamashita
This symposium brings together activists Corky Lee, Tomie Arai, Jack Tchen, and Karen Tei Yamashita to examine the role of arts in the Asian American Movement. Yamashita will read from her new novel I-Hotel, while photojournalist Corky Lee and artist/activist Tomie Arai (moderated by NYU A/P/A Institute and Studies Program founding director Jack Tchen) present their works and discuss how the arts create a collective memory of change.

Redlight World Premiere Screening
Join the world premiere screening of the acclaimed documentary Redlight. Narrated by Lucy Liu, Redlight focuses on the personal storis of four Cambodian victims of sex trafficking and the work of advocates Somaly Mam and Mu Sochua. Followed by a Q&A with Nobel Peace Prize nominee Mu Sochua and filmmakers Guy Jacobson and Adi Ezroni. Proceeds from the event will benefit RedLight Children and Restore NYC, two nonprofit organizations working against slavery and child exploitation.
