Hyphen Nominated for Utne Independent Press Award

March 23, 2010

Great news: Hyphen is up for a 2010 Utne Independent Press Award in the social/cultural coverage category.

Body Issue

If you've not heard of it, the Utne Reader is a magazine that digests and reprints the best from alternative and independent media from around the country. Its Independent Press Awards recognize the excellence in alternative and independent publishing.

We were nominated for best new title in 2004 and best design in 2007.

(And while we're on the topic of awards, Hyphen won for best cover at the Independent Press Association in 2006 for our Body Issue.)

In January, our story about eco-friendly nail salons by Momo Chang was reprinted by Utne. Back in 2007, our story about the Asian obsession with earwax cleaning by Sabrina Tom was also published by Utne.

Thanks to Utne for nominating us. It's a great honor and recognition of all the hard work that Hyphen's volunteer staff and contributors put into the magazine.
