Smoke and Mirrors Exhibit Opening

 

Giant Robot is hosting Smoke and Mirrors, a joint show featuring new work by Bay area based artist Deth P. Sun. Sun’s acrylic paintings on panels bring epic landscapes and cosmic occurrences into a private and personal world. Influenced by David Attenborough, as well as the Moomin series and films of Terry Gilliam, Deth seeks to create a fantasy world as a reflection of his own experiences and worldview. Exhibit runs through September 21, 2011. More info here.

Let's Get It Right! Replacing WWII Euphemistic Language: The Retelling of the Nikkei Incarceration Experience

This program will deal with the need to promote the use of accurate terminology in describing the WW II incarceration experience of people of Japanese descent. This session will be primarily devoted to explaining the need for a Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) resolution, how this drive got it's momentum, and exploring possible avenues to promote it's prime educational objective. Audience questions will be welcomed. Author and filmmaker Karen Ishizuka will also be attendance to talk about the importance of accurate terminology. More info here.

The 6th Annual KAFFNY will take place in March 2012. KAFFNY is an international independent film festival in NYC, starting and evolving from Korean American perspectives.
