After Lisa Lee accepted her Emerging Leadership San Francisco Asian American Heritage Award on Monday night, I thought there was no way we would win the other category Hyphen was nominated in, Community Impact.
But San Francisco Supervisor Carmen Chu, who was presenting the Community Impact Award, said it was Hyphen's night, and Associate Publisher Irene Kao strode up on the stage of Herbst Theatre to accept it.
Lisa has been doing great work the last three years as the publisher of Hyphen. She's kept the organization moving forward so that it can have an impact in the community. Congratulations, Lisa, you do us proud.
It was great to be able to share the evening with Lisa, Irene and Hyphen Founding Editor Melissa Hung, who was the driving force behind Hyphen in its early years.
Congratulations as well to the other nominees, Andrew Lam, Nicki Sun, KQED and New America Media. And kudos to Lifetime Achievement award winners David Louie and Jan Yanehiro.
Finally, congratulations to all of the volunteers and contributors, past and present, who make the impact of Hyphen possible.
