Our next installment from Asian American Sports with Rick Quan features an interview with Rex Walters, the Japanese American head coach of the University of San Francisco’s men’s basketball team. Walters was also the first Asian American to play in the NCAA Final Four, repping the University of Kansas Jayhawks in 1993. Hear him talk about growing up in San Jose playing in local Asian leagues, how his “blond Asian” kids are following in his footsteps in those leagues, and how he hopes that he played a small part in paving a way for Asian Americans in basketball.
