PAAFF Film Review: 'Wo Ai Ni Mommy' Revisited

The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) recently finished after a strong lineup of films and events. One extremely moving, honest, and powerful film was Stephanie Wang-Breal's Wo Ai Ni Mommy, which Hyphen's Momo Chang reviewed back in March. The film's ability to create such strong emotional reactions from the audience merits some additional review and commentary. Please note that the review below includes a spoiler. Music Review: Mondega's 'For the People'

Disclaimer: I am a fan of hip hop, but I am by no means a hip hop writer. I’m still blasting cuts from a 1996 De La Soul album in my car, so from that tidbit alone you can tell roughly where it is that I fall on the hip hop relevancy spectrum.

But when my buddy Lac asked me and others in the Asian American blogosphere to review For the People, the debut album of Vietnamese American rapper Mondega, I had to take it on.
