Asian Americans May Tip the Vote

October 6, 2008

What about those undecided AA voters?

"34 percent of those polled were still undecided, and their numbers could make a difference in states such as Nevada, Virginia, and Washington, where Asian American residents make up more than 5 percent of the population, researchers concluded."

Interestingly enough, the article states that two-thirds of Vietnamese Americans are pro-McCain. That's a whole other can of worms (McCain fought the Viet Cong! McCain uses the word "gook"!) that's best left for another post altogether.

And it's besides the point. The real question is, "Are you registered to vote?"

Today is the last day in many states to register for the November 4 election. Check out the deadlines for whatever part of the country you're repping. If Jessica Alba's Hannibal Lecter voting PSA hasn't convinced you to register, let Hyphen convince you instead!

Can anyone explain to me why three fourths of the Vietnamese are supporting John McCain? I dont get it, to me thats like a black person voting for David Duke.
Here's an LA Times article on Vietnamese support for McCain. Some Viet communities identify with him because he fought Communists and was a POW.
relax, where did you read that from?!
I doubt it makes a politically significant difference whether Asian Americans tip the vote for Obama or McCain. In terms of fundamental foreign and domestic policies issues like war and the current US/global financial implosion, there are only cosmetic differences between the John "Maverick" McCain or the Barack "Messiah of Change" Obama.

the only thing this jessica alba poster has convinced me to do is not see any jessica alba movies.i heard one of john mccain's campaign promises to asian voters is he will limit his use of the word "gook" to once a month.
hey giles, maybe mccain will designate a special day each month for it. like, the 15th of every month will be "gook day."
Republican: That's one way in which we're more model minority than the rest of y'all. (sigh)
viet, if it makes you feel any better, the article says that korean americans and filipino americans are only leaning toward obama by a tiny margin. something like 1.4 to 1.
