Fortunately, peeps are out there, finding them and calling them out:
- Mehr Jay Shahidi, prez of the Minnesota Iranian American Society, comes close to being an apologist for the Iranian crackdown on protesters, but gives an interesting perspective. And newsflash: somebody else is thinking of (m)O(bettah)bama as their greatest hope since sliced hairs.
- Also on the side of good, if geeky, is the Iranian American Society of Architects and engineers who issued a statement somewhat vague in exactly what it was condemning, but making distinct use of a metaphor:
In this equation of political
upheaval, the constants, variables, and coefficients are quickly shifting and
are becoming unpredictable. We as Iranian Engineers and Architects are certain
that use of force radicalizes the entire equation and will make the process of
reconciliation very difficult, and if it continues, solving the equation under
these conditions will be impossible. What they said, only, more articulate.
- R.I.P. Commodore Ramon Alcaraz,
veteran and anti-martial law protester in the US, who hunkered down in
the States to oppose the Brutal Regime of Ferdinand Marcos, after
Marcos withheld a military promotion Alcaraz thought he deserved.
- The UN Secretary General is trying to get the Asian American journalists jailed by the Brutal Regime of North Korea freed. No luck so far.
- A Fil-Am woman has filed a lawsuit against the Philippine government in a US court. She was doing volunteer work when she and two colleagues were abducted, questioned, and tortured, under suspicion of being communists. Fearful for her safety, she waited until she returned to the States to raise a ruckus.
- Viet Am returns to the Indifferently Regimed Vietnam to help the disabled become software engineers. There's a video of a disabled Vietnamese dude singing along to the Brutal Regime of "Hotel California." Not for the easily embarrassed.
- An Indian American (and a Sikh no less) has been appointed COO of Mastercard. His remuneration package makes him the third highest-paid banker after American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault and Citibank head Vikram Pandit, thus bolstering the truly Brutal Regime of irresponsible and over-compensated bank leadership. Generalissimo Greed is back on the horse.
- Generalissima Lisa See brings another battalion in support of the Brutal Regime of Identity Lit. At least the title of the article gets it right: "China as a Theme Park."
- Someone save us from the Brutal Regime of Bai Ling's rapidly wilting cleavage and endless silly movies!
