More Asians Outta Control: Tiny Toones, Fusion X

April 30, 2009

New York Times did a cool thing on Tiny Toones, started by a Cambodian American who got caught up in that bullshit deportation scheme following 9/11. And now these cats are touring the US! Check them out all over the States. Hmm, hip-hop raising up some impoverished Cambodian youths, and then these youths straight coming and giving back hip-hop to the country where it all started? I'm pretty sure we're about to rip open a crazy Dopeness Wormhole with the all the hip-hop energy flowing. CERN, you ain't got shit. Definitely check them out if you're in the area. Honestly, a good hip-hop battle cannot be captured by a hundred Hollywood dance movies, no matter how many members of B2K are involved.

As if that weren't enough, for those of you not in the know, Fusion X (that's '10') just went down this last week. Fusion is one of the premier hip-hop dance competitions, drawing crews from colleges and streets up and down the West Coast. It's put on by none other than MASA, Multi-Asian Student Association down at UC San Diego. Fusion is one of the reasons why the West Coast (and Asian America) always has such a strong hip-hop showing in America's Best Dance Crew. Check the vids here.

Man. All of this serving has gotten me sweaty. I guess to cool off I'll dance. In the rain. In slow mo. But I know, no amount of serving is going to change some minds. Please submit your tired, stereotype-driven rationalizations for Asian American dance skills below.

did...did he just say Asians don't have rhythm? i have a new purpose in life.
racism is like the undead. you shoot it down, you prove it wrong -- and it just keeps coming back, uglier.same goes for stupid. there's just no killing stupid.
Asians are not the most rhythmic, sorry. Great acrobats, as long as they do flips and on ABC, they will be contenders.
This dude Legend went to Asia and destroyed all their B-BOYS. Like I said, one on one with Asian B-Boys, no contest because lack of rhythm. Check out the sitehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIKi5XybTLo
'Observer' and 'Anonymous' are Racist + Jealous = LOSERS. Asians don't have rhythm? That's like saying Blacks are stupid, Hispanics are lazy, and White people are full of themselves. All are stereotypes perpetuated by racists in order to feel superior. Like how Observer and Anonymous are doing. LAME.All those Asian dancers out there sweating their hearts out have everything to be great dancers -RHYTHM, choreography, style, charisma, stunts/power moves, etc. That's why they're winning so many competitions. And as far as the so-called Legend is concerned, who the hell is he? Just ONE person who got lucky? Or just a self-proclaimed "legend" in Observer's mind. He's been beaten by Asian B-boys consistently and with aplomb. In fact, the so-called legend is now called HISTORYBtw, if people are still STUPID and IGNORANT enough to say Asians don't have rhythm, then you shouldn't be upset if there are also people who say that Blacks are stupid, Hispanics are lazy, and White people are full of themselvesbecause if you want to stop racist stereotypes, then you should stop perpetuating them yourself
I think Asian can dance, but without rhythm, Asians are very acrobatic and good breakdancers
