On to the news:
- Japanese men's much lower rates of heart disease, despite their much higher rates of smoking, means that eating fish and fish oil improves yer heart health. Yay. Now if we could just get them to stop whining about not getting those fishing licenses.
- Iranian American urban planner Kian Tajbakhsh has been detained (again) by Iranian authorities. Probably for whining. The US gov has called for his release.
- Korean women are whining because they dominate golf now and clean up houses for Ronald McDonald in New Jersey and still nobody likes 'em. Whine. Maybe they should speak better English or have less of a work ethic or something.
- Indian American Raj Goyle just announced a run for Congress for Kansas. He's not really whining (YET), but I gotta say: what is with the Indian Americans in these random states? Louisiana? Kansas? Aren't they all supposed to be on the west coast?
- The Atlantic has a discussion about Han Chinese racism against Uighurs, and Chinese Americans start whining as usual.
- UC Irvine's Southeast Asian archive is endangered by budget cuts and everyone is whining.
- Korean Americans with double citizenship are whining about passport problems caused by Korea's policy of recording birth dates according to the Korean local time when a person was born (which means, if you follow, that if you're born at such and such a time in the US, you might be born on the next day in Korea, giving you different birthdays in Korea and the US.) Instead of whining, they should be focusing on the fact that they have two birthdays!
- Iranian Americans committed a group whine from Capitol Hill to the White House in solidarity with Iranian Iranians. They want Obama to take vague, but decisive, action against Ahmadinejad.
- And speaking of Uighurs, two Chinese American missionaries in Xinjiang are missing, probably still detained by Chinese authorities after a crackdown on Christian missions after the rioting in Xinjiang last week. It's hard to say who's whiniest here: the Uighurs, who whine whine whine about equal rights, the Chinese authorities, who whine about Christians, or the Christians, who whine about people not being Christians. There's too much whine in the world.
Waaaaaaah! And thaaaaaat's it for todaaaaaaay, folks!
